North Cole at the Kennedy Center

On Tuesday February 19th, is the start of Nordic Cool 2013 in New York, a month-long festival that showcases Scandinavian theater, music, visual arts, literature, design, cuisine and film.
Nordic Cool aims to show several of the typical Scandinavian experiences and destinations, such as the Opera House in Oslo, or the mountains up north.
- While working on the festival, we asked ourselves "What is Nordic?," says Alicia Adams, the festival curator. "I experienced the art, culture, people, land and values that are honored daily," she explains. "Among them: Nature, sustainability, innovation, design and technology."
The festival takes place at the Kennedy Center, and features performances by more than 750 artists in theater, dance, and music from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, and well as Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the Áland Islands.
- The intersection of life and nature, art and culture are deeply reflected in the Nordic countries, and they're deeply rooted in the arts here, too, Adams says.
If you are in for a Nordic experience, the festival is open from February 19-March 17, 2013.
